Increased fruit consumption worldwide to strengthen immunity in the pandemic; devalued real; climatic conditions that allow multiple harvests per year. All of these factors are contributing to higher Brazilian fruit exports, with an ever-increasing emphasis on mango. According to Agrostat, in 2019, foreign fruit sales totaled 997 thousand tons (up 16% compared to 2018) and US$ 858 million in revenue (8.5% increase) especially for melons, mangoes, limes, bananas and grapes. Brazilian fruit exports have good prospects and should accelerate in the second half, surpassing the US$ 1 billion mark.
Aware of this scenario, Termotécnica has been increasing its activities in conserver sales for fruit exports. Mangos exported by air cargo are being shipped to Europe in FarmFresh conservers.
To meet the demanding European market, Brazilian mango exporters are prioritizing quality over quantity. According Termotécnica’s Superintendent Director, Nivaldo Fernandes de Oliveira., mango producers for export take special care with post-harvest in addition to excellence in all stages of production. With this in mind, choosing the right packaging is extremely important for thermal maintenance throughout the process and guarantees a quality product at the POS . “Thinking about this quality for premium mango production from the farm to the consumer's table, FarmFresh solutions have been a differential that adds great value,” affirms Nivaldo de Oliveira.
“Our conservers' differentiated design adds value visually at points-of-sale as well as logistical ease when handling and stacking, in addition to being lighter, which guarantees reduced freight cost, especially in air transport. Considering the logistics chain as a whole it's a differentiated and innovative solution for this market,” states the Termotécnica’s Director.
Developing EPS conserver solutions under the FarmFresh brand for the international market, Termotécnica has been working with partner producers and traders to contribute toward expanding the market share for Brazilian fruits in foreign markets.
In this true race against time, from producer to consumer, Termotécnica's post-harvest solutions extend the fruits’ shelf-life by up to 30%, maintaining their nutritional properties longer. Certified by tests in European laboratories (AgroTropical and HDG), these results confirm less food waste and losses, making the FarmFresh line sustainable and suitable for packaging fruits from harvest to consumers, lowering impact and vibration forces while in transit as well as better retail display.
The benefits regarding logistics costs of the FarmFresh EPS conservers in relation to other materials are proven. Depending on the fruit type, when compared to corrugated board packaging, for example, EPS conservers are up to 60% lighter, which also accounts for about 6% savings in air freight.
“We present the test results and quantify the gains according to each situation. With longer shelf-life and all the characteristics of logistical efficiency, such as reduced freight, we help customers increase competitiveness and, consequently, their sales volumes and market share worldwide,” affirms Nivaldo de Oliveira.
